Περί... "λεονταρισμών"

   Οι συνεχόμενες καταστροφές που πλήττουν την Ελλάδα και κυρίως την Αττική τον τελευταίο καιρό, αλλά κυρίως ο τρόπος με τον οποίο αυτές αντιμετωπίζονται από κάθε κατεύθυνση, είναι μια σοβαρή αφορμή για το συγκεκριμένο άρθρο. Σε σχεδόν καθημερινή βάση πλέον, η φύση (ίσως με και το "χεράκι" μερικών που είπαν να... βοηθήσουν) έχει βαλθεί να δείξει τις τραγικές υποδομές της πρωτεύουσας.
   Την αρχή έκαναν οι καταστροφικές πυρκαγιές, των οποίων τα θύματα ακόμη μετριούνται. Κατά τη διάρκεια της επιδρομής της φωτιάς, που δεν άφησε τίποτα στο πέρασμά της, φάνηκε το πόσο απροετοίμαστοι πιάστηκαν όλοι, με ορισμένους να αντιμετωπίζουν τον κίνδυνο με ένα βαθμό υπεροψίας. Από τις αρμόδιες αρχές, που δεν γνώριζαν προς τα που να κατευθύνουν τους ανθρώπους, στέλνοντάς τους πίσω προς τα καμμένα, μέχρι τους ίδιους τους κατοίκους, οι οποίοι αντιμετώπιζαν το όλο θέμα με έναν απίστευτο "άερα" του στυλ "έλα μωρέ, εδώ θα'ρθει να κάψει";
   Εδώ εφαρμόζει άψογα η φράση "ποτέ δεν πιστεύουμε ότι θα μας συμβεί μέχρι που μας συμβαίνει και είναι πολύ αργά" ή κάπως έτσι. Άλλοι πάλι, επέλεξαν την... υστεροφημία, καθώς έμεναν πίσω στη φωτιά, προσπαθώντας να βγάλουν κάποιο "βιντεάκι" που να το ποστάρουν στο φέισμπουκ και να μαζέψουν λάικ. Φυσικά υπήρχαν και οι φυσιολογικοί, οι άνθρωποι δηλαδή που μόλις είδαν φωτιά, έτρεξαν να σωθούν και καλά έκαναν!
   Η απόλυτη έλλειψη προετοιμασίας και υποδομών του κράτους δεν θα έπρεπε να είναι κάτι που να προκαλεί εντύπωση σε αυτό το σημείο. Τα ίδια συνέβησαν και στον Πύργο πριν κάποια χρόνια και τα ίδια εξακολουθούν να συμβαίνουν, σε μικρότερη έκταση πάντα (και ευτυχώς τις περισσότερες φορές χωρίς θύματα!), κάθε καλοκαίρι. Όταν κάτι έχεις καταντήσει να το περιμένεις, δεν γίνεται να σου προκαλεί εντύπωση όταν συμβαίνει. 
   Εφ' όσων λοιπόν, δεν υπάρχει κράτος και κάθε καλοκαίρι επαναλαμβάνεται η ίδια ιστορία, δεν θα έπρεπε οι ίδιοι οι άνθρωποι να λαμβάνουν τα μέτρα τους; Ο καθένας ξεχωριστά; Μια απλή απορία είναι. Αφού βλέπεις και ξέρεις ότι δεν μπορείς να περιμένεις τίποτα κι από κανέναν, γιατί δεν φροντίζεις εσύ ο ίδιος τουλάχιστον να έχεις λάβει μέτρα κατά της φωτιάς, να διατηρήσεις καθαρή την αυλή σου από ξερά κλαδιά και σκουπίδια (ειδικά τώρα που καίει ο ήλιος και είναι επικίνδυνη περίοδος) ή στη χειρότερη να έχεις μια γρήγορη μέθοδο διαφυγής σε περίπτωση που συμβεί το χειρότερο;
   Ναι, δεν υπάρχει κράτος και αν κάποιος πει ότι ο Τσίπρας κι ο κάθε Τσίπρας βρίσκονται στην εξουσία μόνο για να τα τρώνε, θα του πω πως "συμφωνώ κι επαυξάνω", αλλά μήπως αυτό είναι το μόνο εύκολο στην τελική; Μήπως είναι απλή πανάκειος το να τα ρίχνουμε όλα εκεί και να ζητάμε μια κεφαλή επί πίνακι, λες κι έτσι θα διορθωθούν όλα τα κακώς κείμενα;
   Μήπως αντί να ζητάμε ανάληψη ευθυνών αριστερά και δεξιά, να κοιτούσαμε λίγο πιο κοντά; Τι μπορούσε να κάνει ο καθένας ξεχωριστά για την αποτροπή αυτής της τραγωδίας; Αντί να κάνουμε λεονταρισμούς στα φέισμουκ και τα τουίτερ, δε θα ήταν πιο εποικοδομητικό να οργανωθούν μικρές ομάδες αρχικά, οικογένειες, ένοικοι πολυκατοικιών, δήμοι, κοινότητες, ή ξέρω γω τι άλλο, να κοιτάξουν τι έφταιξε τώρα και να το φτιάξουν πρωτού ξανασυμβεί;
   Λίγο μετά τις πυρκαγιές, έσκασαν πλυμμήρες. Σε εικόνες που βλέπω, η Μεσογείων θυμίζει περισσότερο τον... Έβρο! Γιατί σε έναν από τους πλουσιότερους δήμους της Ελλάδας (Αμαρουσίου) δεν έχουν παρθεί μέτρα από τους ίδιους τους κατοίκους; Μήπως στη τελική είμαστε κι εμείς οι ίδιοι ένοχοι ως... βολεμένοι; Καλομαθημένοι από μιαν άλλη εποχή που όλα κυλούσαν ομαλά χωρίς εμείς να χρειάζεται να κάνουμε πολλά-πολλά;
   Στη τελική, υποχρέωση του πολίτη δεν είναι να πηγαίνει, να ρίχνει μια ψήφο και να τα περιμένει όλα από αυτούς που ψήφισε! Αν ζεις κάπου, οφείλεις να προσέχεις το σπίτι σου, εντός κι εκτός. Όχι όπου σε εξυπηρετεί. Ναι, φυσικά, οι υποδομές είναι παλιές και οι οδοί διαφυγής ήταν ανύπαρκτοι και οι υπεύθυνοι δεν έκαναν σωστά τη δουλειά τους και χίλια δυό. Όμως όταν ζητάμε "ανάληψη ευθυνών" από άλλους, ας έχουμε πράξει κι εμείς τα δέοντα.
   Γιατί ο πρωθυπουργός και οι πολιτικοί εκπρόσωποι μιας χώρας ίσως είναι κι ένας καλός καθρέφτης της γενικότερης νοοτροπίας που υφίσταται.

Impressions from the FIFA World Cup 2018

  
  Yet another World Cup has come and gone. With its ups and downs, this competition has now gone into the annals of history. Unfortunately, I must say that this World Cup leaves me personally with a bitter taste in my mouth for a number of reasons. Despite that, however, I would be remiss not to mention the high number of goals scored (169, with an average of 2.6 per game and only one goalless draw between France and Denmark) that helped provide us with entertainment and plenty of suspense throughout this last month.
   But let's take things one at a time. First topic of discussion would be the debut of the Video Assistant Referee (more commonly known as VAR) at this World Cup. It appeared, only to prove that it does not work. Of course, there are those players that might try to take advantage of the referee's bad point of view, to which end yes, VAR might prove helpful, but as a general rule it doesn't really make a difference. Because at the end of the day, no matter how much technology is introduced to the world of football, it is still up to the individual to make the call. Case in point, the final between France and Croatia, where Perisic's supposed handball gave France the lead. After checking with the VAR, the referee decided to award France the penalty, yet the overwhelming majority on social media claimed that the decision was unjust and unfair for Croatia.

   Something else that left a bit of a bad impression at the 2018 World Cup was the disappointing performance of some of the greater teams. And if for Spain it was a little expected -considering their former head coach's Julen Lopetegui's decision to abandon his nation a few days before the start of the tournament-, it came completely out of right field for some others, such as Germany (who fell victim to the "winning nation" curse), Portugal and Argentina. Struggling against sub-par opponents, eventually being disqualified very early on, this was not what we expected from the representatives of these nations. Combined with the absence of Italy, Chile and the Netherlands, and also the fact that such an event occurs for a second consecutive time right after the European Championship of 2016, it might just go to show that the so-called top quality players are being a bit too overexerted with continuous games and responsibilities for clubs and nations. The players of other nations didn't have as many games on their feet and were able to apply pressure for longer periods of time (case in point: Germany vs. South Korea).
   On the other hand, we saw teams get very far in this tournament that under different circumstances, shouldn't have. And at this point, I can't but mention the incredibly narcissistic England who, for some reason have come to believe that the World Cup did at some stage call their country home for it to be "coming back". Gareth Southgate's men (who seemed to be the only one in comprehension of the reality of the situation), after barely scraping a win from Tunisia in their first game, got a comfortable victory over the tourists of Panama in the second, then decided to lose to Belgium's B' team in order to avoid clashing with Brazil in the knockout stages. Instead, they met up with the tragic Colombia (whoever saw their game against Senegal knows what I mean), had to take them to penalties to advance, then got through Sweden admittedly relatively comfortably, only for them to meet up with their first real challenge in the face of Croatia once they had already reached the semis. If England were any luckier, they would've met with Japan in the final! They showed absolutely no improvement in this tournament, just a series of flukes. 

   Unfortunately, to speak a bit about the winners, the Cup ended up in the hands of the team with the most realism. Not the one that played the most attractive football (Brazil), not the one that scored the most goals (Belgium), not even the one with the best defense (Croatia). But to the team that did what was necessary to get results. Leave no gaps in defense, apply the pressure in midfield, leave the ball to the opposition and hit them on the counter-attack thanks to possibly the fastest forward of the whole tournament (Mpappe). France did that. Realistic to the core, each player knew exactly what was required of them on the pitch. They gave the sense at times that they could even go down to Australia, yet not even the likes of Belgium could break them down. The style of football that Didier Deschamps has instilled into his team is quite reminiscent of that which helped Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid reach two UEFA Champions League finals. However there they met with Real Madrid. There's no such team on national level.
   A lot of speculation went around if Russia was even going to be ready to host this World Cup, considering they were missing some of the deadlines to deliver their stadiums to FIFA's organizational committee. But in my opinion, I feel the world owes a standing ovation to the hosts, as they held a magnificent competition with grand venues and perfect pitches that helped the players in their efforts. In addition, the weather was pleasantly nice for a country like Russia, since in all the games I personally watched, I only remember it raining once, something very rare for cities like Samara, Gdansk or Sankt Peterburg.
   The next World Cup will be held in Qatar during the summer of 2022. It will be very interesting to see how FIFA will cope with hosting such a tournament in the middle of the championship season for Europe. But until then, we have four whole years...

Εντυπώσεις από το Μουντιάλ

  Ένα ακόμη Παγκόσμιο Κύπελλο έφτασε στο τέλος του. Με τα θετικά του, τα αρνητικά του, κι όλα τα ενδιάμεσα. Δυστυχώς προσωπικά οφείλω να παραδεχτώ πως το συγκεκριμένο Μουντιάλ αφήνει μια άσχημη γεύση με τον τρόπο που ολοκληρώνεται για μια σειρά από λόγους. Ωστόσο δεν μπορεί κανείς να παραλείψει και τον μεγάλο αριθμό τερμάτων που είχαμε (169 τέρματα, με μονάχα μια "λευκή" ισοπαλία μεταξύ Γαλλίας-Δανίας) τα οποία συνέβαλαν τα μέγιστα ώστε να δούμε μια ενδιαφέρουσα διοργάνωση.
   Ας πάρουμε όμως τα πράγματα με τη σειρά. Πρώτα-πρώτα μιλώντας για το VAR, το οποίο έκανε και στον μεγάλο τελικό την εμφάνιση του, απλά για να μας θυμίσει ένα πράγμα: δεν λειτουργεί. Χρησιμοποιώντας μόνο τη φάση του πέναλτι του Πέρισιτς, καταλαβαίνει κανείς πως όσα VAR και να εισαχθούν στο ποδόσφαιρο, σε τελική ανάλυση όλα θα εξαρτώνται από την ανθρώπινη κρίση. Ο διαιτητής έδωσε πέναλτι αλλά υπήρχε μια μεγάλη πλειοψηφία ουδετέρων τηλεθεατών ανά τον κόσμο οι οποίοι διαφώνησαν έντονα στα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης. 

   Κάτι ακόμα που έκανε μεγάλη εντύπωση στο Μουντιάλ της Ρωσίας ήταν η απογοητευτική απόδοση ορισμένων μεγάλων ομάδων. Κι αν για την Ισπανία κάτι τέτοιο ήταν λίγο-πολύ αναμενόμενο, μετά την εγωιστική κίνηση του Ζουλέν Λοπετέγκι να βάλει την... τσέπη του πριν από τις ανάγκες της εθνικής του ομάδας, δεν το περιμέναμε για ομάδες επιπέδου Γερμανίας (η οποία έπεσε θύμα της "κατάρας" του νικητή του Μουντιάλ), της Πορτογαλίας ή της Αργεντινής. Δυσκολευόντουσαν με υποδεέστερους (στα χαρτιά) αντιπάλους και αποκλείστηκαν άδοξα από τις πρώιμες φάσεις της διοργάνωσης. Η απόδοση ορισμένων παικτών κορυφαίου επιπέδου, σε συνδυασμό με το γεγονός ότι αυτό συμβαίνει για δεύτερη φορά μετά το Euro 2016, ίσως και να δηλώνει πως είχαν "καεί" από τα συνεχόμενα παιχνίδια μέσα στη σεζόν. Οι αντίπαλοί τους, όντας πιο "φρέσκοι", κατάφερναν να τους χτυπήσουν με συνεχόμενη πίεση (κάτι π.χ. πολύ εμφανές στο ματς της Γερμανίας με τη Νότιο Κορέα).
   Από την άλλη, είδαμε ομάδες οι οποίες ίσως και να μην άξιζαν να βρίσκονται στη θέση που έφτασαν. Δεν θα μπορούσα σε αυτό το σημείο να μην κάνω ειδική μνεία στους αθεράπευτα ναρκισσιστές Άγγλους, οι οποίοι θεωρούν ότι για κάποιο λόγο το Παγκόσμιο Κύπελλο κάποτε έδρευε εκεί ώστε να "γυρίσει σπίτι". Η ομάδα του Σάουθγκεϊτ λοιπόν (ο μοναδικός ο οποίος φαινόταν να μην πετάει στα συννεφα), μετά από μια υπερβολικά δύσκολη νίκη με αντίπαλο την Τυνισία και αφού έκανε "πλάκα" στον Παναμά που πήγε εκεί για τουρισμό, έκατσε κι έχασε από τα δεύτερα του Βελγίου ώστε να διαλέξει αντίπαλο και να μη χρειαστεί να τα βάλει με Βραζιλίες. Κι έτσι, πήγε κι έπεσε πάνω στη παραπαίουσα Κολομβία (όποιος είδε τον αγώνα με τη Σενεγάλη, ξέρει), την απέκλεισε με τα χίλια ζόρια, ξεπέρασε σχετικά εύκολα και το εμπόδιο της Σουηδίας, κι όταν ήρθε η στιγμή να τα βάλουν με έναν λίγο πιο σοβαρό αντίπαλο όπως η Κροατία, οι Άγγλοι ήπιαν... θάλασσα! Έχοντας τρεις ήττες (Βέλγιο επί δύο, Κροατία) με δυνατότερους αντιπάλους και δύο περιπετειώδεις νίκες με (υποτίθεται) υποδεέστερους (Τυνησία, Κολομβία), είναι δύσκολο να δει κανείς τη βελτίωση της Αγγλίας. Μάλλον περισσότερο της "έκατσαν" τα πράγματα όπως τα ήθελε.

   Δυστυχώς, για να μιλήσουμε και λίγο για τους νικητές, το Μουντιάλ κατέληξε στην ομάδα με το μεγαλύτερο ρεαλισμό. Όχι στην ομάδα που έπαιξε το ομορφότερο ποδόσφαιρο (Βραζιλία), ούτε στην ομάδα που πέτυχε τα περισσότερα γκολ (Βέλγιο), ούτε καν στην ομάδα με την καλύτερη άμυνα (Κροατία). Αλλά την ομάδα που έκανε απλά όσα χρειαζόταν για να κερδίσει. Είχε σφιχτή την άμυνά της, πίεζε ασφυκτικά στο κέντρο, άφηνε την μπάλα στον αντίπαλο και χτυπούσε στις αντεπιθέσεις βασιζόμενη στην ταχύτητα του ίσως ταχύτερου και πιο εξελίσσιμου παίκτη του Μουντιάλ (Εμπαπέ). Αυτή ήταν η Γαλλία. Ωμά ρεαλιστική, έδινε την εντύπωση ότι μπορούσε να χάσει ακόμη και από την Αυστραλία, ενώ στην πραγματικότητα ούτε το Βέλγιο δεν μπορούσε να τη κάνει καλά! Το ποδόσφαιρο που έπαιξε η ομάδα του Ντεσάμπ οφείλω να ομολογήσω πως μου θυμίζει σε πολλά το στυλ παιχνιδιού που οδήγησε την Ατλέτικο Μαδρίτης του Ντιέγκο Σιμεόνε σε δύο τελικούς Τσάμπιονς Λιγκ. Μόνο που εκεί υπήρχε και μια Ρεαλ, ενώ σε εθνικό επίπεδο δεν υπάρχει.
   Πολύς λόγος γινόταν για το αν η Ρωσία θα είναι τελικά έτοιμη να υποδεχτεί το Μουντιάλ, με κάποια γήπεδα να είναι πίσω σε ότι αφορά τους χρόνους παράδοσης στη FIFA, ωστόσο θεωρώ πως ο κόσμος όλος θα πρέπει να δώσει ένα μεγάλο χειροκρότημα στους Ρώσους, καθώς είδαμε γήπεδα-στολίδια με γρασίδι-χαλί (όλα παίζουν το ρόλο τους) και ούτε ένα ευτράπελο (πλήν της εισόδου κάποιον ανύπαρκτων στον τελικό που ούτε τους θυμάται κανείς). Γενικότερα ήταν μια πολύ ευχάριστη διοργάνωση ενώ βοήθησε τα μέγιστα και ο καιρός, καθώς προσωπικά νομίζω πως είδα μόνο ένα ματς με βροχή και όχι πολύ κρύο, κάτι σπάνιο για τόσο βορινές περιοχές όπως η Αγία Πετρούπολη ή η Σαμάρα.
   Επόμενη διοργάνωση στο Κατάρ το χειμώνα του 2022. Θα έχει ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον να δούμε πως η FIFA θα καταφέρει να διοργανώσει ένα Μουντιάλ τη στιγμή που τα ευρωπαϊκά πρωταθλήματα θα βρίσκονται σε πλήρη εξέλιξη. Μέχρι τότε όμως, έχουμε καιρό!

My Hero No-Can-Do-Meia?!

   Recently a new Shonen anime seems to have taken the world by storm. It is called My Hero Academeia (or Boku No Hero Academeia, for those that prefer Japanese) and it tells the story of young Izuku Midoriya (or Deku, according to his friends) who lives in a world full of superheroes yet doesn't possess a power of his own. That is until, one day, the world's greatest superhero called All Might (think Superman, but more blonde) passes his own power down to young Deku. Deku then enrolls into the world's greatest school for superheroes, timely dubbed Hero Academeia, and from then on the plot unfolds.
   Personally, as much as I've tried, I can't seem to get into this particular anime for a number of reasons. The first of them being that it has too many common elements with other anime, more specifically the Naruto franchise. A good-for-nothing protagonist? Check! An over-reactive rival? Check! A type of school environment in which the protagonist and the rest of his friends grow up in? Check! An exam during which a whole bunch of OP villains attack, forcing the grown-up, stronger heroes to demonstrate the powers that the protagonist will eventually have? Check! A character with family issues? Check! Having so many similarities with Naruto, it's hard not to think "I've seen it all before" while watching My Hero Academeia.
   Yet another reason that I can't develop a deep level of immersion into MHA, as opposed to other anime such as Dragon Ball Super or even Fairy Tail, is due to the level of urgency that seems to be missing from its world. The superheroes all seem to be extremely overpowered, to the point of being able to obliterate any obvious threat. The strongest hero, All Might, is capable of crushing any enemy with minimum effort and even the strongest of enemies, Shigaraki Tomura and All For One, don't really seem that much of a threat. Their motives are extremely minor (they want to show the world that All Might is not the hero they think he is, thereby throwing it into a state of chaos) and don't really seem to lead anywhere for them personally. F.e., Madara Uchiha wished to end all conflict in the world by removing all chakra and placing all shinobi under a dream against their will. Vegeta wanted to obtain the Dragon Balls, become immortal and blow the Earth to smithereens. You can see the difference in the motivation and threat level in one sentence alone.
   The final factor is I think the overabundance of Shonen anime. For us, the older generation that grew up watching Dragon Ball Z, I believe at some point it's just the same story being told by different people. Usual underdog trains hard, has a lot of enemies, battles them, some become his friends, he trains even harder, some hidden scheme becomes revealed along the way, main character ends up having to fight to save the world, main character defeats final villain even though he dies 2-3 times trying to do so, and they all live happily ever after. My Hero Academeia does absolutely nothing to differentiate itself from this same trope. As a matter of fact, it sticks so hard to this routine-ish script that as already pointed out earlier, it's hard to tell the difference between it and Naruto anymore. Deku is just a mixture between Naruto himself and Rock Lee at this point.
   So those are the reasons why I cannot and more than likely will not ever get behind the whole My Hero Academeia hype. Now, don't get me wrong, I watch it, I enjoy it, but I don't get the same rise out of it as I do with even Boruto. Cause at this point I have an attachment to the characters that are in Boruto, I'm interested to see what goes on in their lives. My Hero Academeia is just a carbon copy and it'll have to do a lot to gain my attention properly! 

What does it mean to "mature"?

   Looking at my blog, I realized I haven't actually posted any social-related article for a while now. And that's probably for good reason, I mean I'm always psyched about video games and sports, plus I had this move to Melbourne going for a while now, so I haven't really had much time to sit down and think of such an issue. Or to be more precise, nothing like that had come up. I thought I had pretty much analyzed everything that could be analyzed regarding social behaviors, but recently there's been something on my mind that I would like to address. 
   Considering this is my "big move" and I'm now on my own, I had been told from multiple different sources that I would be forced to "grow up". That I would have to "mature". That this would occur naturally, without me putting a lot of thought into it. It's just a process that we all go through at some stage in our lives. However, I have been pondering about what it truly means for a person to be "mature". Is it something that happens to us, like how we grow teeth, or is it just some pretentious term that we randomly came up with?
   For a while I thought being "mature" meant outgrowing your own interests and gaining different, more sophisticated ones. However, that would require an entire change of character. And that doesn't happen. Once a person finds the things they've set their heart on, it's difficult for them to let them go, they have a connection with them. Maybe up until their late 20's does a person stay open to new and different things. Once they enter their 30's, it's hard for them to get into anything new. So it would be hypocritical for someone to do that.
   Another use for the term (emotional) "maturity" would be to behave, as they say, more your age. More adult-like. To be someone who the title of "Mister" can be tied to. To dress more your age. Less T-shirts with funny characters or cheeky messages on them, more collar shirts and black ties. But who defines what you can behave as, be called or wear?? At the end of the day, we live in a society that allows freedom now more than ever! If a person is accepted based on their sexual orientation and race, then why should they be judged if they're 30+ and wanna wear T-shirts and talk slang (as long as they're not being offensive)?
   One more possible explanation for this term could be that you're finally capable of taking care of yourself. But honestly, if you're over 20 and you can't even do that, then in this humble blogger's opinion, you won't survive for long in the real world. Do what you want, act how you want, be however you want, but be capable of standing on your own two feet. Don't ask for help for every little thing cause based on experience, help ain't never gonna come! Or it might but only when it's convenient for them. It's preferable that you be the one others turn to for help. So in terms of that, I don't really consider it being "mature" if you can take care of yourself, I just think it's common sense.
   A last use for the phrase "emotional maturity" could be just as simple as that: for you to be able to cope with your emotions, a.k.a. your feelings. This is a process that actually could take a lot of years and experience, so yes, you could call it "maturing". Learning to properly deal with certain emotions that you were bad with before, handling people and situations better, becoming stronger as a person throughout previous experiences... that could be what it truly means to mature. To use all the events of your past as feedback, find your mistakes during those events and not repeat them. Not everyone's perfect however and we may stumble upon the way, but the idea here is to make an imprint in your mind of those times where you made the biggest mistakes so that you don't find yourself in a similar situation ever again. That's quite possibly the best meaning behind "emotional maturity".
   At the end of the day, however one decides to use the term "mature", it is up to the individual how they will accept it. There could be the pretentious maturity, that is only existent for the eye of the beholders and vanishes behind closed doors, and then there's true maturity, that can be seen behind every word and action a person takes, even if said person wishes to act a bit more cheerfully and less appropriately for his age. That could also be taken as proof of maturity since it shows self-confidence. It is up to us what we determine as mature and what type of people we want to surround ourselves with.

Προβλέψεις ομίλων Μουντιάλ 2018

  

  Και να που πέρασαν κιόλας τέσσερα ολόκληρα χρόνια και βρισκόμαστε ξανά προ των πυλών ενός ακόμη Μουντιάλ! Με τον τελικό του "Μαρακανά" να αποτελεί πλέον μια μακρινή ανάμνηση ακόμα και για τους μεγαλύτερους φίλους του αθλήματος, όλος ο πλανήτης ετοιμάζεται να μπει στο γιορτινό κλίμα που απαιτεί η σπουδαιότερη ποδοσφαιρική διοργάνωση. Με κάτι παραπάνω από 50 ημέρες να απομένουν για το εναρκτήριο λάκτισμα στα γήπεδα της Ρωσίας, οι 32 αντίπαλοι αρχίζουν σιγά-σιγά να μπαίνουν στο κλίμα.
   Αν και τα περισσότερα ευρωπαϊκά πρωταθλήματα δεν έχουν ολοκληρωθεί και το Τσάμπιονς Λιγκ βρίσκεται ακόμη στην ημιτελική φάση, δεν θα έλεγε κανείς πως είναι πολύ νωρίς για να σκεφτόμαστε το Μουντιάλ. Τουναντίον μάλιστα, θα ήταν η ιδανικότερη στιγμή για να αναλύσουμε τους ομίλους και να προβλέψουμε το πως πιθανόν να εξελιχθούν αυτοί, καθώς ήδη γνωρίζουμε για απουσίες, προσθήκες, φορμαρισμένους παίκτες και επιλογές προπονητών. Ας ξεκινήσουμε λοιπόν.
   Ο Α' όμιλος είναι και εκείνος της οικοδέσποινας Ρωσίας. Θα έχει τη στήριξη του κοινού της, ενώ και το σύνολο που διαθέτει δεν είναι διόλου ευκαταφρόνητο, με παίκτες της ποιότητας των Ακινφέεβ, Ντζαγκόεβ, Κοκόριν και Ιγκνασέβιτς. Ωστόσο δεν θα παίξει μόνη της, καθώς στον όμιλο συμμετέχουν επίσης η πάντα ισχυρή, όσο και απρόβλεπτη Ουρουγουάη, αλλά και η Αίγυπτος του MVP του Αγγλικού πρωταθλήματος, Μοχάμεντ Σαλάχ. Η Σαουδική Αραβία που κλείνει τον όμιλο δεν φαίνεται ικανή για πολλά εδώ.

   Ο Β' όμιλος προβλέπεται να προσφέρει σπουδαίο θέαμα, με τη μάχη Πορτογαλίας-Ισπανίας να εξέχει από... χιλιόμετρα! Ο Κριστιάνο Ρονάλντο θα βρει μπροστά του συμπαίκτες κι αντιπάλους από την Πριμέρα, σε ένα παιχνίδι που θα καθηλώσει το κοινό και ασφαλώς θα κρίνει κα την πρώτη θέση του ομίλου, καθώς μόνο με... αυτοκτονία θα αποκλειστεί κάποια από τις δύο αυτές υπερδυνάμεις από τις προφανώς ασθενέστερες εθνικές του Ιράν και του Μαρόκο που είναι στον ίδιο όμιλο.

   Στον Γ' όμιλο έχουμε μια επαναλαμβανόμενη σύμπτωση, σε ότι αφορά την εθνική ομάδα της Γαλλίας. Όπως και το 2014 (που είχε κληρωθεί με Ελβετία, Εκουαδόρ και Ονδούρα), έτσι και φέτος, θα αντιμετωπίσει ομάδες οι οποίες ίσως την κοντράρουν, αλλά σε καμία περίπτωση δεν έχουν την ποιότητα του ρόστερ της. Μιλάμε για την Δανία, του εξαιρετικά φορμαρισμένου άσου της Τότεναμ, Κρίστιαν Έρικσεν, το Περού και την Αυστραλία, την τελευταία ομάδα που "τσέκαρε" εισητήριο για το Μουντιάλ. Οπότε καταλαβαίνουμε πως όλα εξαρτώνται από τους Γάλλους και την απόδοση που θα πιάσουν. Αν, λόγου χάρη, τους πιάσει πατατράκ τύπου 2002, μπορεί μέχρι και τελευταίοι να τερματίσουν! Αλλά με βάση την έως τώρα απόδοσή τους και την φόρμα ορισμένων βασικών παικτών τους στις ομάδες τους, το σενάριο αυτό δεν συγκεντρώνει και πολλές πιθανότητες! Ένα μικρό "αίνιγμα" για αυτόν τον όμιλο είναι η παρουσία της Αυστραλίας, καθώς προσέλαβε νέο τεχνικό πρόσφατα, τον Μπερτ Βαν Μάαρβαϊκ και πιθανών να εμφανιστεί ισχυρότερη του αναμενομένου.

   Και ο Δ' όμιλος περιλαμβάνει μια σύμπτωση όμως, καθως Αργεντινή και Νιγηρία συναντώνται για μια ακόμη φορά σε τέτοια φάση Μουντιάλ. Κάτι παρόμοιο έχει ξανασυμβεί άλλες... τέσσερις(!) φορές, με πιο πρόσφατη εκείνη στα γήπεδα της Βραζιλίας. Μαζί τους αυτή τη φορά είναι η Κροατία και η Ισλανδία. Φυσικά ο Λιονέλ Μέσι και η παρέα του αποτελούν αδιαφιλονίκητο φαβορί, όχι μόνο για τον όμιλο αλλά για ολόκληρη τη διοργάνωση, καθώς πιθανότατα αυτή να είναι και η τελευταία ευκαιρία του μικρού μάγου να κατακτήσει το συγκεκριμένο τρόπαιο, ένα από τα λίγα που λείπουν από την τροπαιοθήκη του. Ωστόσο, υπάρχει και το ενδεχόμενο όλο αυτό να λειτουργήσει εις βάρος του και άρα εις βάρος ολόκληρης της εθνικής του, καθώς η απόδοση του αποτελεί βαρόμετρο. Ο όμιλος αυτός δεν είναι "παίξε-γέλασε", καθώς και η Κροατία των Μάντζουκιτς, Μόντριτς, Ράκιτιτς, αλλά και η πρωτοεμφανιζόμενη Ισλανδία έχουν αποδείξει πως είναι δυσκατάβλητοι αντίπαλοι. Ουσιαστικά ολόκληρος ο όμιλος εδώ θα κριθεί από το πως θα εμφανιστεί ο Μέσι.

   Ο Ε' όμιλος είναι λίγο ευκολότερη υπόθεση. Η πεντάκις παγκόσμια πρωταθλήτρια Βραζιλία θα αντιμετωπίσει την Ελβετία, την Κόστα Ρίκα και τη Σερβία. Η Βραζιλία βρίσκεται σε πολύ καλύτερη κατάσταση απ'ότι ήταν στο Μουντιαλ που διεξήχθη στα δικά της εδάφη προ τεσσάρων ετών, με νέο "αίμα" να κυλάει στην επιθετική της γραμμή και παίκτες της ποιότητας του Φιρμίνιο, του Κοουτίνιο και του Κασεμίρο να είναι διαθέσιμοι άνα πάσα στιγμή, αλλά και το μεγάλο της αστέρι, τον Νειμάρ, να δηλώνει "ετοιμοπόλεμος" μετά τον πρόσφατο τραυματισμό του. Με βάση την άνεση με την οποία προκρίθηκε από τη ζώνη της Νοτίου Αμερικής, αλλά και την εικόνα που δείχνει στα φιλικά, δεν θα ήταν υπερβολή να πει κανείς πως πάει για το "3 στα 3". Σε ότι αφορά τους υπολοίπους αντιπάλους, η Ελβετία είναι ένας πάντα υπολογίσιμος αντίπαλος, η Κόστα Ρίκα ήταν η ομάδα-έκπληξη που έφτασε μέχρι τα προημιτελικά του προηγούμενου Μουντιάλ και άρα δεν μπορεί να υποτιμηθεί και η Σερβία θέλει να κάνει ένα δυνατό "come-back" σε τελική φάση.

   Και ο ΣΤ' όμιλος όμως έχει ένα ξεκάθαρο φαβορί και αυτό δεν θα μπορούσε να είναι άλλο από τη νυν παγκόσμια πρωταθλήτρια Γερμανία. Μια ποδοσφαιρική μηχανή από την ενδεκάδα της οποίας βγαίνει ένας παίκτης, μπαίνει άλλος και δεν παρατηρείται καμία διαφορά στην απόδοση. Μια ομάδα που έχει την ευχέρεια να έχει τόσους πολλούς ποιοτικούς παίκτες που δεν της λείπει κανείς. Αν γίνει η πρώτη ομάδα με δύο συνεχόμενες κατακτήσεις Μουντιάλ, δεν θα αποτελέσει καμία έκπληξη. Μαζί της είναι η Σουηδία, γύρω από την οποία κυκλοφορούν φήμες πως μπορεί να επανεμφανιστεί ο Ζλάταν Ιμπραΐμοβιτς για μια τελευταία "παράσταση", το Μεξικό και η Νότιος Κορέα.

   Στον Ζ' όμιλο επιστρέφουμε στις δυνατές μονομαχίες, με το Βέλγιο να βρίσκεται αντιμέτωπο με την Αγγλία. Και οι δύο ομάδες διαθέτουν πολλούς φορμαρισμένους παίκτες αυτή τη περίοδο, πολλοί παίκτες γνωρίζουν ο ένας τον άλλον καθώς η πλειονότητα των Βέλγων αγωνίζεται στην Πρέμιερ Λιγκ, οπότε μυστικά μεταξύ των αντιπάλων δεν θα υπάρχουν, και γενικά αναμένεται με ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον αυτό το παιχνίδι. Το Βέλγιο έδειξε στα προκριματικά ότι αντέχει πλέον τον τίτλο του φαβορί, ενώ και η Αγγλία έδειξε έτοιμη να επιστρέψει στις σπουδαίες εμφανίσεις του παρελθόντος. Την ίδια στιγμή η Τυνησία θα καραδοκεί για την οποιαδήποτε ευκαιρία της δώσουν οι δύο αυτές σπουδαίες μεν, αλλά αμφίρροπες στην απόδοσή τους ομάδες. Ο Παναμάς βρίσκεται εκεί απλά για τη συμμετοχή και δεν διαθέτει ρόστερ ικανό για πολλά πράγματα.

   Ο τελευταίος όμιλος είναι ίσως ο μοναδικός που δεν περιλαμβάνει κάποιο από τα λεγόμενα φαβορί. Ίσως η Κολομβία να υπερέχει ελάχιστα των αντιπάλων της, αλλά και η Πολωνία του Λεβαντόβσκι είναι σε εξίσου υψηλά επίπεδα. Επίσης η Ιαπωνία του Χόντα, του Καγκάουα και του Ναγκατόμο είναι μια ομάδα που δεν ξέρει πως να εγκαταλείψει τα όπλα. Ακόμα και η Σενεγάλη έχει τις πιθανότητές της σ'αυτόν τον όμιλο που όλα μπορούν να συμβούν.

   Κι έτσι κλείνουν οι προβλέψεις για τους ομίλους ενός ακόμη Μουντιάλ! Υπομονή κάτι λιγότερο από δύο μήνες μέχρι να δωθεί το εναρκτήριο λάκτισμα στα γήπεδα της Ρωσίας και να δούμε κατά πόσο επιβεβαιώνονται ή όχι τα δεδομένα αυτά. Και στη τελική, αυτό είναι ένα από τα πιο ωραία πράγματα του ποδοσφαίρου: η απροβλεψιμότητά του!

Single player is better than multi-player

   So, recently it has become a bit of a necessity within the gaming community for every new title to be released with multiplayer content if it is to withstand the test of time. A lot of games that are meant to be focused on their campaign modes, have included some form of multiplayer element so that they can gain a piece of that pie as well. Titles such as Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, The Last Of Us, Final Fantasy XV, Grand Theft Auto V, Rise Of The Tomb Raider and others are games that have a clear-cut beginning and an ending, but there's also an online mode.

   And then there's the constantly new games that are entering the arena. Games that are specifically multiplayer-only, like Overwatch, Fortnite and Player Unknown's BattleGrounds (or PUBG, as it is more commonly known). Games that continuously keep popping up and competing with one another for who will attract the most attention and fans. One can make the claim that there are other titles in this category as well, such as Minecraft or World Of Warcraft, but that would be grossly mistaken. For a multiplayer title to build such a dedicated fanbase, it should withstand the test of time and both the aforementioned titles have done so.
   Why could it be that gamers are attracted to these specific sorts of entertainment, no one can truly say. However one argument could be that they feel they can get their money's worth out of them, when compared to even the most massive single-player game experience, which could set them back $70 and last them only 50-60 hours at the most, maybe over 100 if the player is what is known within the community as a "completionist". So it's almost like they're dishing out around $1 per hour of story. Not the most ideal of scenarios.

   Another could be that they actually want to play with their friends and don't have the time to physically meet up with them during the week. In our day, time can be a valuable thing since responsibilities begin early, with schools and different lessons becoming more and more necessary for one to eventually survive in today's business market. With this in mind, it makes a lot of sense how kids might turn to some online game that they can play with a friend or two without even having to get dressed or leave the comfort of their bedroom. It's ideal. This can be said twice as much for adults, who have even more burdens and responsibilities, trying to juggle work, family and fun.
   A final scenario as to why gamers are turning more and more towards multiplayer could even be monetization. Or in clearer terms, the exploitation of the current trends. With so many new streaming platforms available to them, players have begun to take their hobby more professionally than ever before. They see which game is popular through social media, quickly purchase it and make their online accounts and immediately begin streaming. Of course, even the online streaming industry has become a literal war-zone, despite still being in its infancy, so a streamer will have to provide quality content if he's to actually gain any attention. In other words, he'll not only have to stream the game, but he'll have to be good at it. Which is something quite difficult, with the trends changing so rapidly.

   But is it a correct opinion for the online community to outweigh the single-player title inclined community by that much? Are these quick-consumption type of games really the best thing the industry has to offer? Is it right to say that "multiplayer is better than single player, any day of the week"? Well, no, it isn't. And here's why.
   First of all, a mutliplayer title will offer the same experience repeatedly. Like microwaving the same food every day. Eventually you'll get sick of eating pizza if you have it all the time. Whereas single-player games will give you unique experiences, new locations, incredible stories and memorable characters.
   Secondly, you have a lot to gain by investing some time in a story-driven title, especially the most modern ones. They often contain complex characters and interesting scenarios, from which players can actually learn a thing or two. They are literal experiences that may even include some morals or life-lessons. Infinitely more educational than the "lets-kill-everyone" types of environments most multiplayer titles include.

   The third is the community. What's that? There is no community in single-player titles? Yes, that's my point. The fact is that a lot of younger players tend to use the anonymity provided by the random match-ups in online games to their advantage, in order to bring out their most hideous selves. In what seems to be a competition for who's gonna come up with the most clever insult, the people responsible for these online communities do their best to keep the slander to a minimum, but there will always be some form of online bullying. Even if it's in the form of kicking someone out of a random group because he's "underleveled" (his level is low so the rest of the party thinks he might hold them back). Yes, even that can be considered bullying. But a single-player title doesn't have any of that hassle. You can play at your own pace, at any level you want and at whatever speed, without anyone telling you anything.
   The fourth is the sheer volume of single-player titles that are just so rewarding. Games like Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, The Last Of Us, NieR: Automata, Persona 5, Horizon Zero Dawn, Far Cry 5, Super Mario Odyssey, Grand Theft Auto V, The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, God Of War, Monster Hunter World, Shadow Of the Colossus, Sea Of Thieves, and so many more that have either already been released or are yet to come, make single-player gaming what it is. An incredible adventure that always has something new to show us. All these developers are now bringing their best and it's such a shame that people are choosing to ignore it just so they can teabag their mates and post it on YouTube.
   For someone like me, that grew up with a Super NES, a game will always be about its story. That's how you get invested in it and that's how you decide if you want to continue with it or not. And there are specific exceptions to online gaming such as the incredible Final Fantasy XIV that I feel necessary to include. However, it will always remain an unbreakable rule that single player titles can provide the type of experience and entertainment in gaming that no multiplayer title ever could.
